Kenny Bednarek’s determination to achieve his goal of winning both the 100m and 200m events at the Paris 2024 Olympics took a big step forward with his victory in the 100m at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi. Despite challenging weather conditions with heavy rain, Bednarek outpaced home favorite Ferdinand Omanyala to clock an impressive 9.91 seconds, just above the legal wind limit of 2.2m/s.
Bednarek had previously kicked off his season with a win in the 200m event in Florida, followed by a second-place finish in the 100m at the Tom Jones Memorial race. The Kip Keino Classic showcased several world-leading performances, including a standout display in the men’s hammer competition by world champion Ethan Katzberg of Canada, who threw a personal best of 84.38m to claim victory ahead of top competitors such as Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine and Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki.
Another noteworthy performance came from world champion Mary Moraa, who thrilled the home crowd with a dominant victory in the 800m event. Leading from start to finish, Moraa crossed the line in a world-leading time of 1:57.96, solidifying her status as a top contender in the event.
