Breaking the Barrier: Peres Jepchirchir Sets New Women-Only World Record at TCS London Marathon

At the TCS London Marathon, Peres Jepchirchir made history by setting a new women-only world record, finishing the race in 2:16:16. Jepchirchir left behind strong competitors like Tigist Assefa, Joyciline Jepkosgei, and Megertu Alemu to claim her third victory in a World Marathon Majors race. The pace was fast right from the start as a group of nine women passed the 10km mark in 31:26 and dwindled down to seven by the halfway point.

Around 18 miles into the race, Jepchirchir, Assefa, Jepkosgei, and Alemu broke away from the rest of the pack and held on for several miles. With just over a minute left to go, Alemu was unable to keep up with the leading trio. In the final moments of the race, Jepchirchir surged ahead, leaving Jepkosgei and Assefa behind as she crossed the finish line in record-breaking time.

Jepchirchir’s finish time of 2:16:16 shattered the previous women-only world record set by Mary Keitany in 2017. The Kenyan runner’s impressive performance has solidified her place among the top marathon runners in the world. Stay tuned for more updates on this historic race.
