Breaking records: Amazon’s Q1 earnings and lightning-fast delivery services impress investors

Amazon boasts fastest Prime order deliveries ever

In the first quarter of 2024, Amazon delivered more than 2 billion items to its Prime members faster than ever before. Its drivers delivered over 90% of these items “the same or next day”, beating Wall Street’s expectations. The e-commerce giant reported quarterly earnings on Tuesday that impressed investors.

Amazon also announced that it delivered over 1 billion items in a one-day window during the first three months of 2024, surpassing the numbers from the previous year. Nearly 75% of items ordered by Prime members in the top 75 US metro areas arrived on the same day or the next day. Major cities outside of the US, like London, Tokyo, and Toronto, saw nearly 80% of items delivered within a one-day time frame.

Blake Droesch, a senior analyst at market research firm Emarketer, praised Amazon’s “strong Q1 growth” in online store sales. He highlighted the company’s focus on delighting customers with free and fast delivery for both household and non-household products. The availability of free delivery on orders over $35 from stores like Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh for Prime members is expected to further attract customers and advertisers to Amazon’s platform.
