Breaking News: CommonSpirit Health and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Reach Five-Year Agreement in Colorado

CommonSpirit and Anthem have reached an agreement to renew health care options for thousands of people in Colorado.

CommonSpirit Health and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield have reached a new five-year agreement in Colorado. Since May 1, when their prior contract in the state lapsed, CommonSpirit and Anthem had been at an impasse, unable to reach an agreement. The standoff between the country’s second-largest health insurance company and third-largest hospital system left thousands of health care consumers across the state scrambling for care when CommonSpirit hospitals were suddenly out of network.

With the new contract, Anthem members covered by employer-based, Medicare Advantage and individual health plans in Colorado will once again have in-network access to CommonSpirit Health providers and care sites through April 2029, according to a joint news release from the two health care giants. Anthem Colorado President Matt Pickett said in a statement that the “long-term nature” of the agreement “ensures care provider network stability for our members and cost-predictability for Colorado employers for years to come.”

CommonSpirit Mountain Region Executive Vice President Andrew Gaasch stated that this partnership will ensure patients continue to receive compassionate care from the doctors and nurses they know and trust. He added that patients should visit Mountain.CommonSpirit.org for assistance in finding options for care. Anthem members should contact the Member Service phone number on their Anthem ID card for assistance with any questions related to their coverage as they are now back in network with CommonSpirit facilities, including St. Anthony Summit Hospital located just off Colorado Highway 9 near Frisco.
