Breaking Ground: Utah’s First Women’s Sports Showcase at the Inaugural Beehive Bash

The inaugural Beehive Bash is coming to Highland High School this weekend, marking the first time in Utah that a day will be dedicated to showcasing the state’s women’s sports programs. Six local teams will gather to demonstrate the diverse range of sports offered in Utah for women and nonbinary individuals, including rugby, ultimate frisbee, and football.

Among the teams participating are the Salt City Slugs, Boulder Babes, and Utah Vipers, local rugby teams competing in Division 1 and 2 of USA Club Women’s Rugby. Members of the Provo Peaks rugby team and BYU’s extramural squad will also be taking part. The Utah Wild will be demonstrating ultimate frisbee skills, while the Utah Falconz will be playing football.

Falconz captain Kim Krinke emphasized the importance of highlighting these teams and sports, which are often overlooked. This event aims to showcase the talents of these athletes and raise awareness about the opportunities available for women in sports in Utah.

The Beehive Bash is part of ongoing efforts to persuade Salt Lake City officials to transform the stadium area currently occupied by the Salt Lake Bees into a sports complex exclusively for professional and semi-professional women’s sports in Utah. The event also serves as a platform to promote the She Plays Here proposal, which calls for such a transformation.
