Breaking Down the Mother’s Day Gift Preferences of Latina Mothers: Electronics Over Jewelry and Clothing

40% of Latinas in the US Prefer Technology Over Jewelry on Mother’s Day

Verizon has conducted research on the preferences of Latina mothers for gifts on Mother’s Day. The study found that 40% of Latina mothers prefer cell phones or smart watches as gifts, which is double the preference of other Americans. Electronics are now more popular gift choices than jewelry or clothing among Latina mothers. However, flowers still remain the most expected gift for Mother’s Day.

According to a report by Verizon, three out of every four Latino adults communicate with their maternal figure at least once a week, with more than half of Gen Z Latinos calling their mother figures every day. The study showed that the Latin community has a closer relationship with their mother figures compared to the American population.

Verizon has launched promotions and offers targeting Latin consumers in the US for Mother’s Day, recognizing the importance of technology in connecting mothers with their loved ones. Latina mothers consider their phones important for parenting and staying in touch, with many using their phones to take photos, stay in touch with family, and make video calls.

The survey revealed that Hispanics in the US also tend to celebrate other maternal figures, such as sisters, grandmothers, or aunts on Mother’s Day more than Americans in general. The research included national samples of Americans, Latinos and American Latina mothers and caregivers.

Verizon’s Vice President of Local and Segment Marketing, Robyn Parks emphasized the importance of technology in connecting mothers with their loved ones highlighting Verizon’s commitment to providing families with the technology and services they need. Overall, this study underscores how increasing reliance on technology is becoming necessary for communication and connection among latina mothers in the US
