Sara Curtis Shatters World Junior Record in Short Course 50 Backstroke

At the Italian National Youth Criteria competition, Sara Curtis from Italy set new records in the short course meter 50 back event with a time of 26.08. She achieved a new Italian, European Junior, and World Junior Record. Curtis improved the World Junior record by .05 seconds, breaking the previous record set by Olivia Smoliga in 2012.

Curtis also won the 100 back event at the same competition with a time of 58.05, becoming the only swimmer in the field to go under a minute. Her previous best time was 26.77, while Smoliga held the previous World Junior record with a time of 26.12 and Kameneva set the previous European Junior record with a time of 26.15, and Scalia set the previous Italian record at 26.18.
