On the second day of the 2024 Australian Open Championships, Elizabeth Dekkers set a new All Comers Record in the 200m butterfly event. At just 19 years old, Dekkers clocked in at 2:05.20, breaking her previous record of 2:05.26 from the previous year. All Comers Records represent the fastest time ever recorded on Australian soil by a swimmer from any nation.
Dekkers’ impressive performance was led by her strong start, where she was .24 seconds faster compared to her previous record. Her talent and hard work have propelled her to become the third-fastest Australian in the 200m fly event, ranking 14th in the world. With Trials coming up in June, Dekkers is currently ranked second in the world this season.
In addition to her recent success at the Australian Open Championships, Dekkers has achieved podium finishes at international events such as earning silver in Fukuoka, bronze at the 2022 Short Course World Championships, and gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Her impressive performances have solidified her as one of the top swimmers in the world in the 200m butterfly event.
