Brazil set to Host Women’s World Cup in South America: A Historic First for FIFA and UK’s Future World Cup Hopes

Brazil wins bid to host 2027 Women’s World Cup after FIFA vote

In 2027, Brazil will host the Women’s World Cup for the first time in South America. The country has previously hosted the men’s event twice, in 1950 and 2014. This decision was significant as it marked the first time that all of FIFA’s member associations were involved in the selection of the host country, replacing the previous method where the FIFA Council made the decision.

The last edition of the Women’s World Cup was held in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, with England finishing as runners-up. FIFA president Gianni Infantino congratulated Brazil on winning the bid to host the event and expressed confidence that it would be a great tournament. He also thanked Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany for their fantastic bid.

This decision is likely to benefit UK’s prospects of hosting a World Cup in the 2030s given that Mexico and USA, who withdrew from the 2027 race to focus on hosting in 2031, would be strong favorites to win. Therefore, by 2035, it will be 16 years since Europe last hosted the finals in France in 2019.
