Braves’ All-Star Second Baseman Ozzie Albies Injured, Placed on 10-Day IL

Ozzie Albies, All-Star second baseman for the Braves, placed on injured list with broken toe after being hit by pitch.

The Atlanta Braves have placed All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a broken big toe on his right foot during a game against the Houston Astros. The injury occurred when Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti threw an inside curveball that hit Albies’ right foot, causing him to fall to the ground.

Despite being injured, Albies remained in the game and even helped the Braves secure a 6-1 win. However, after an X-ray revealed a visible crack in his toe, Albies was placed on the injured list. He admitted that he didn’t realize the extent of his injury at first and thought he just had a deep bone bruise.

The Braves called up infielder David Fletcher to take Albies’ place on the roster. Fletcher is expected to provide some stability in the middle infield until Albies returns.

Albies is known for his impressive play, having been named an All-Star three times in a row. Last season, he hit 33 home runs, drove in 109 runs, and stole 13 bases. So far this season, he has been off to a strong start with two home runs, 14 RBI, and two stolen bases in 15 games. Despite the setback, Albies is determined to recover and return to playing at the high level he is known for as soon as possible.
