As the summer break begins for students, the Brainerd School Board is already gearing up for the 2024-25 school year and beyond. At a recent meeting, discussions focused on curriculum for grades K-12, with a particular emphasis on preparing students for middle school, meeting state standards, and creating an optimal learning environment.
Director of Instructional Technology Christina Lundgren and Digital Learning & Curriculum Specialist Robin Knutson presented three curriculum proposals. The first proposal was for kindergarten through fourth grade, focusing on media and technology to best prepare students for the transition to middle school. The second proposal addressed the mathematics curriculum for grades five through eight, aiming to provide an updated method to meet state standards in the subject.
For high school students, the proposed science curriculum centered around OpenSciEd, a program that combines OpenSciEd, earth, and space science courses. This curriculum was designed to create a conducive learning environment for students to process information effectively while aligning with the state’s framework for high school science education.
The Brainerd School Board unanimously approved each of the proposed curriculum changes, signaling a commitment to providing students with the best possible education and preparing them for future academic success.
