Latest Coaching Carousel Update: Cavaliers to Interview James Borrego

As the NBA coaching carousel continues to spin, several teams are actively searching for a new head coach. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers, in particular, are on the hunt for a replacement for Dan Hurley and Tyronn Lue, respectively.

Reports indicate that New Orleans assistant James Borrego is set to meet with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday to discuss their coaching vacancy. Borrego is also being considered for the Lakers’ coaching position after Hurley rejected their offer. With his impressive offensive skills, Borrego could be a good fit for the Cavs, who are waiting to see if Donovan Mitchell will sign an extension once free agency opens.

Meanwhile, Darvin Ham is returning to Milwaukee as the lead assistant on Doc Rivers’ staff, after spending two seasons as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Former Cavaliers assistant Greg Buckner is also joining Rivers’ staff in Milwaukee. The coaching carousel continues to turn as teams look to find the right fit for their rosters and coaching staff.

In other news, Mike Hopkins has agreed to become an assistant for the Phoenix Suns under Mike Budenholzer. Budenholzer, who is now coaching in Phoenix, is also bringing Hopkins, who has decades of experience in college basketball, to his new staff.
