BorgWarner Secures Two New High-Voltage Hairpin eMotor Contracts with Chinese EV Maker Xpeng for Upcoming SUV Models

BorgWarner bolsters eMotor portfolio with new business from Xpeng

BorgWarner recently announced that it has secured two high-voltage hairpin (HVH) eMotor business wins with Chinese EV maker Xpeng for their upcoming SUV models. These contracts include BorgWarner’s advanced oil-cooled 800V eMotor systems, which have been customized for the vehicles. The production of these SUV models is scheduled to start in 2025.

Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, expressed excitement about expanding their eMotor business with XPeng and strengthening their longstanding partnership. The HVH220 eMotor, which features BorgWarner’s patented high-voltage hairpin winding technology, operates within an 800V propulsion system and can produce up to 300kW of power with a maximum speed of 18,000 rpm. It also achieves peak efficiencies exceeding 97%.

Earlier this year, BorgWarner began production of its HVH220 eMotor for Xpeng’s X9 MPV and their next electric B-class sedan, with production expected to start in Q3 2024.
