Egyptian Minister of Planning Hala Al-Saeed recently announced plans to increase the cultivation of wheat in the coming years. The aim is to cultivate 3.5 million acres of wheat in the fiscal year 2024-2025, which is an increase from 3.2 million acres in the current fiscal year 2023-2024. This expansion is part of efforts to increase storage capacities of wheat silos to reach 5.2 million tons, up from 3.9 million tons in the year 2022-2023.
In addition to wheat, Egypt also aims to increase the cultivation of strategic crops such as corn and fava beans. The goal is to cultivate 2.8 million acres of corn and 220 thousand acres of fava beans. These crops have high productivity levels, which can help reduce the food gap and decrease the need for agricultural imports.
