Boosting Vietnam’s Ginseng Industry: Expert Workshop Emphasizes the Need for Improved Techniques and Quality Control

Vietnamese Ginseng Benefits Revealed by Korean Experts

On June 27th, a workshop organized by the Vietnam – Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) emphasized the need for Vietnam to enhance its ginseng growing techniques and conduct more scientific research. A Korean professor highlighted the limited scale of ginseng production in Vietnam compared to Korea and stressed the importance of developing farming methods to increase productivity.

Experts at the workshop discussed the necessity of researching the chemical composition, biological activity, and quality control of ginseng to provide scientific evidence for its benefits. Preserving the genetic diversity of Vietnamese ginseng and establishing standards for testing and certifying the quality of health care products from ginseng were also highlighted.

Vietnamese scientists shared research on developing ginseng and ginseng products in Vietnam, with successful breeding and planting of ginseng in various regions contributing to economic development. A seven-step growing process has been standardized in the Lai Chau ginseng growing area to ensure quality and effectiveness.

The workshop aimed to develop quality standards for Vietnamese ginseng that meet international regulations, with a focus on technology transfer and production cooperation. The Ministry of Science and Technology has supported ginseng research and quality verification to position Vietnamese ginseng as a priority for research and development. Through collaboration with Korean experts, Vietnam hopes to improve its technology and production practices in the ginseng industry.
