Boosting Digital Literacy: State Grants Awarded to Organizations in Our Region

In our region, several organizations have been awarded state grant funding to improve digital literacy. These grants are part of a larger state initiative to expand broadband internet access, but instead of focusing on providing internet service, the funds will be used to educate individuals on effective computer usage. According to Sen. Jon Lundberg, proficiency in digital skills is becoming increasingly important across various industries, beyond just social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

Cloudwise Academy, Northeast State Community College and Bristol Library are among the recipients of this grant funding. Cloudwise Academy plans to use the money to train 100 individuals in website development and business applications of artificial intelligence. The Bristol Library intends to hire an additional staff member to enhance their digital skills programming, which will enable them to provide more classes and one-on-one assistance for their patrons.

T.J. DeWitt emphasized the importance of making these resources available to all demographics, including young people who may have basic digital skills but need help with more complex tasks such as Excel. The goal of these grants is to bridge the digital skills gap and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn and succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The Bristol Library is already working towards this goal by offering classes and providing 3D printing tools on site. However, with this new funding they will be able to take their efforts one step further by providing more comprehensive training for their staff and patrons alike.

These grants represent an investment in the future of our region and its residents, as they work towards becoming more digitally literate and competitive in today’s job market.
