Boost to Smith County’s Economy: BraunAbility Expands with New Facility and Tax Incentives

Smith County Business Receives Tax Abatement for Expansion to New Interstate Commerce Park

A significant development is taking place in Smith County as the Tyler Interstate Commerce Park welcomes BraunAbility, a business that specializes in producing automobile mobility products for people with disabilities. The company’s expansion plans include a 140,000 square foot building on about 29 acres, which is expected to create 74 new jobs with an average annual salary of $53,000.

The final step in securing a 10-year tiered tax abatement for both the company and property owners was approved by the Smith County Commissioners Court on Tuesday. This tax abatement will take effect on January 1, 2026, and will vary over the ten-year period: 80% for the first four years, 60% for the next two years, 40% for the following two years, and 20% for the final two years. The company recently stored hundreds of vans at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport as a sign of their need for additional space.

Tyler is experiencing significant growth and development as other companies like YellaWood also plan to build new facilities in the area. Additionally, the Tyler Economic Development Council has purchased 412 acres for further business development in the region, indicating a promising future for economic growth in Smith County.
