Bonus Boost: Oklahoma Superintendent Announces Unique Program to Attract Top Math and Science Teachers

Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters recently announced a new teacher bonus program to recruit math and science teachers to the state. Under this program, eligible teachers who did not teach in a public school in Oklahoma for the 2023-2024 school year can receive a signing bonus of up to $25,000. In-state certified secondary math or science teachers can receive a $15,000 signing bonus, while out-of-state certified secondary math or science teachers are eligible for a $25,000 signing bonus.

Walters expressed his excitement about bringing highly qualified teachers to Oklahoma classrooms and highlighted the positive aspects of living and working in the state. He emphasized that this initiative is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the state’s education system and attract talented educators to Oklahoma. To be eligible for the program, teachers must meet specific criteria such as holding an alternative or standard certification in secondary math or science and being hired to teach during the 2024-2025 school year in a rural Oklahoma public school.

This teacher bonus program is unique as it offers incentives for both in-state and out-of-state certified secondary math or science teachers. It is an opportunity for educators looking to start their career or move to a new state to take advantage of this program and make a significant impact on young students in rural Oklahoma public schools. Teachers interested in taking advantage of this bonus program should learn more about the eligibility requirements and application process.
