Boeing Faces Criminal Charges after DOJ Settlement Agreement Violation in Ongoing Legal Battle with Families of Crash Victims

Report: Prosecutors advise filing federal criminal charges against Boeing

After the 2018 and 2019 crashes, allegations were made that Boeing had defrauded the Federal Aviation Administration. The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Boeing reached a settlement agreement in May 2021 for $2.5 billion. However, prosecutors have now recommended that the DOJ file federal criminal charges against Boeing for violating the terms of this settlement agreement.

According to Reuters, prosecutors have determined that Boeing breached the compliance regulations outlined in the settlement agreement. The possibility remains that new, stricter conditions may be proposed or that the existing settlement terms may be extended. Families of the 346 victims of the two crashes have called for Boeing to pay a fine of nearly $25 billion.

Representatives for Boeing and the DOJ have not yet commented on this situation, as per Business Insider’s request. It remains unclear what actions will be taken next in this ongoing legal battle between Boeing and the government officials involved.
