Blue Jays Face Injury Challenges with Romano and Manaoh on the IL

Jordan Romano, All-Star closer for the Blue Jays, placed on 15-day IL due to elbow discomfort.

The Toronto Blue Jays made a roster move on Saturday, placing All-Star closer Jordan Romano on the 15-day injured list due to a sore right elbow. This move was retroactive to Thursday. Romano had missed part of spring training and the beginning of the season due to elbow soreness. An MRI on Friday revealed no structural damage, but Romano will be shut down for several days to rest and recover.

Manager John Schneider announced that right-handers Yimi García and Chad Green will share closing duties in Romano’s absence. With two key pitchers sidelined with arm injuries, Toronto will rely on their depth and bullpen depth to navigate through this challenging period.

In addition to Romano, the Blue Jays recently placed 2022 Cy Young finalist Alek Manaoh on the 15-day IL due to a sprained elbow. This has put a strain on the team’s already thin rotation, as they look for ways to stay afloat amidst these challenges.
