Blood Assurance, a nonprofit regional blood center with Georgia locations, is urging donors to help replenish the blood supply in Texas and Oklahoma. The organization is part of the National Blood Emergency Readiness Corps and is actively responding to the aftermath of the deadly storms that claimed lives in Cooke County, Texas and Oklahoma. A tornado killed seven people in Texas and two in Oklahoma.
The organization has two locations in Georgia: one in Cartersville at 334 Cherokee Place and another in Rome at 168 Shorter Avenue SW. Both locations operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to these fixed locations, mobile blood drive events are also available for donations.
To be eligible to donate blood, individuals must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Those who are 16 years old can donate with parental consent. Donors are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids and eat before donating to ensure a positive experience
