Birdwatching Extravaganza at Troy Wetlands: Celebrating Spring Bird Life with the Geauga Park District

Geauga Park District to host ‘bird sit’ event in honor of World Migratory Bird Day

On May 18, the Geauga Park District is hosting a “bird sit” event in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day. This event is an opportunity for nature lovers to record all the birds they see and hear at Troy Wetlands. Participants are welcome to gather at the observation deck and sit for as little or as long as they’d like between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m. to assist in tallying spring bird life with Naturalist Linda Gilbert.

Troy Wetlands currently holds the record for the highest number of bird species sighted in Geauga County, with 123 species, surpassing LaDue Reservoir. The park’s diverse habitats make it an ideal location for bird watching, and participants should come prepared with appropriate clothing, a chair, binoculars, a camera, and other comfort items. No registration is required for this event, and attendees can check the park district’s website for any weather-related updates.

The event will take place at 18725 Claridon-Troy Road in Troy Township, and signs will be posted to guide participants to the observation deck. This is a great opportunity for nature enthusiasts to connect with their environment and learn more about the birds that call Troy Wetlands home.
