Beware of Fraudulent Social Media Scams Targeting NMBS Customers

NMBS cautions against deceptive messages on social media: “Beware, we do not provide a train card for 2 euros”

The NMBS has issued a warning about fraudulent messages appearing on social media that aim to deceive people into providing personal information. Despite the railway company filing complaints with the authorities and social media platforms, the misleading messages continue to circulate.

Scammers are circulating messages claiming that the Belgian railways are offering a gift card for just two euros to anyone who completes a questionnaire. This card supposedly allows the holder to travel for free throughout Belgium for a year. However, these reports are false and are an attempt to obtain banking information from unsuspecting victims.

The NMBS advises travelers to ignore these messages and only rely on communication through official channels. They also caution against sharing personal information or bank details with such offers. The spokesperson for the railway company, Bart Crols, suggests being cautious if the communication is unexpected, irrelevant, or if the offer seems too good to be true.

Additionally, NMBS will never ask for personal information on an insecure webpage. Travelers should verify all information from official sources before providing any personal data or making any financial transactions online.

The NMBS is committed to protecting its customers from fraudulent activities and urges travelers to be vigilant when using social media platforms. It is important to be aware of potential scams and to verify all information before making any decisions or providing any sensitive data.
