Bette Nash, known as the world’s longest-serving flight attendant, passed away at the age of 88. American Airlines, her employer, announced her death on social media and paid tribute to her nearly 70 years of dedicated service to customers in the air. According to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, Nash began her career as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines in 1957 and moved to American Airlines when they acquired many of Eastern’s routes in 1990.

Nash was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest-serving flight attendant in January 2022, a title she still holds. In a 2016 interview with CNN, Nash recalled her lifelong dream of becoming a flight attendant since the age of 16 when she first saw a flight crew and was mesmerized. She pursued this dream after college and found success in the aviation industry. Nash’s passion for her job and her dedication to customer service made her an inspiration to many in the industry.
