Berlin Prepares for Euro 2022 with Intensified Security Measures Amid Tensions and Celebrations

Police conduct major operation to ensure high security at Ukraine reconstruction conference

In preparation for the upcoming European Football Championship, security measures in Berlin are being intensified. The two-day Ukraine reconstruction conference in Berlin is expected to have a high level of security, with the CityCube congress center on the exhibition grounds in Charlottenburg serving as the venue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chancellor Olaf Scholz will open the event, along with other high-ranking politicians in attendance.

To ensure the safety of attendees and VIPs, the Berlin police will need to secure not only the conference venue but also hotels where important politicians are staying. Traffic disruptions are expected, particularly along routes connecting the airport, exhibition center, government district, and hotels in the city center. The airspace will be monitored, buildings will be searched for explosives, snipers will be positioned, and special operations units will be on standby.

The police chief has stated that this operation is one of the largest in recent years and holiday bans have been put in place for police officers. Support from other federal states will also be necessary due to ongoing tensions in Berlin and because many officers are needed for other duties related to the upcoming championship. With less than a week until kickoff at Euro 2022, security measures are being heightened even further to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all fans.
