Benny Gantz’s Ultimatum to Netanyahu: A Comprehensive Plan for Peace in Gaza by June 8 or Resignation

Israeli government divisions are deepened

Amid ongoing military actions in Gaza, including offensives in the Jabalya refugee camp and Rafah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing increased pressure from prominent members of his war cabinet. Benny Gantz, a key player in the Israeli unity government, issued an ultimatum to Netanyahu this Saturday, threatening to resign if a post-war plan for Gaza is not developed and approved by June 8.

Gantz emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan that includes the release of Israeli hostages, demilitarization of Gaza, return of displaced Israelis, establishment of a regional government, and progress in negotiations with Saudi Arabia. As tensions deepen within the cabinet, relations with the United States have also become strained due to disagreements over the direction of the war and desired outcome.

Despite resistance from Netanyahu, Gantz’s stance on the situation reflects a desire for collaborative efforts to bring stability to Gaza without directly engaging the Palestinian Authority. He emphasizes the importance of public support and decisive action in achieving this goal. With key leaders at odds over the best path forward in resolving the conflict in Gaza, the future of the unity government remains uncertain.
