Bend Booms During Memorial Day Weekend as Tourists Pour in from Across the Country

Memorial Day Weekend Results in Increased Business for Bend Stores as More Tourists Visit

The Memorial Day weekend just passed, and businesses in the Bend area saw a surge in tourists from all over the United States. Many of these visitors came by plane or car, with AAA predicting that 88% of Memorial Day travelers would opt for a road trip.

One such tourist was Kasey Boknevitz, who traveled all the way from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to visit friends and meet the sibling of their dog, who was rescued from Mexico. Similarly, the Millikans journeyed from Vancouver, Washington, to enjoy their time in Bend, whether camping or staying in a hotel.

Despite the influx of thousands of visitors, Bend Police described the weekend as relatively quiet. However, businesses like boarding outfitters Tactics and The Bend Store saw an increase in customers thanks to events like the Bend Bash youth baseball tournament, which attracted over 250 teams to the area.

At Tactics store manager Tim Picerno noted that there was a significant increase in traffic compared to previous years. Visitors at The Bend Store purchased souvenirs like T-shirts, mugs postcards and paintings celebrating the beauty of Bend.
