Belgian Football Star Apologizes for Kicking Joke in Video

Belgium issues apology for video showing player kicking Mbappe

Belgian football star Amadou Onana, a crucial player for the team that finished second in the group stage of the European Championship behind Romania, has found himself at the center of controversy after a video was posted on social media featuring him making a joke about kicking France captain Kylian Mbappe when the two teams meet in the last 16.

In the video, which has since been removed, Onana is seen jokingly responding to a song by comedian Pablo Andres about kicking Mbappe’s shin by saying his own name. The humor did not sit well with French fans and media, prompting an apology from the Royal Belgian Football Association.

At a news conference, Belgian media spokesman Stefan van Loock expressed regret for the video, admitting that it was meant to be humorous but was not well received. With tensions potentially running high due to the incident, the two countries are set to face off on Monday in Dusseldorf.
