BBVA Exceeds €7 Billion in Business Loans, Prioritizing Sustainable Solutions and Renewable Energy Projects in First Quarter of 2021.

BBVA commits €20 billion to sustainable initiatives

In the first quarter of 2021, BBVA’s Businesses line was able to mobilize a total of €7 billion, with a focus on advising business customers on sustainable solutions that could lead to economic savings. The bank’s efforts in this area saw a significant increase in funding for agribusiness, water, and circular economy projects, with Mexico playing a crucial role in contributing to this success.

In the retail business sector, BBVA mobilized €2.6 billion during the first quarter, continuing to introduce digital solutions tailored for the mass consumer market. The bank also dedicated €124 million to financing the purchase of hybrid or electric vehicles, marking a significant growth compared to the same period in the previous year.

BBVA’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) channeled approximately €10.4 billion during the first quarter of 2021. All products within this sector performed well, including long- and short-term financing, as well as the brokerage of green, social, and sustainable bonds linked to environmental and social factors. Notably, financing for renewable energy projects saw a substantial increase during this period.
