The Batten College of Engineering and Technology has recently been recognized for their commitment to diversity, inclusion, and degree attainment. The American Society for Engineering Education’s Diversity Recognition Program awarded the college Bronze-level status, acknowledging their efforts to promote these values within their programs.
In order to be considered for this program, colleges must develop a comprehensive diversity plan that outlines specific goals and assesses their needs, establishes priorities and mandates equity training, implicit bias training, and inclusion training. They must also hold themselves accountable and utilize surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of their efforts.
Stacie Ringleb, the associate dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access at the College expressed pride in the alignment of the Batten College’s efforts with the College’s Strategic Plan and Old Dominion University’s Monarch Plan for Inclusive Excellence. She emphasized that being recognized by ASEE is an honor for the college’s dedication to diversity initiatives.
As part of their recognition, the Batten College will be permitted to display a special badge on their marketing materials and website for a three-year term.
