Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, announced on Wednesday that a fundraising drive has raised $600,000 for the family of slain Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hoosock. Portnoy expressed his desire to reach $1 million and stated that he would continue to match donations until that goal is achieved.
Last year, Portnoy visited Syracuse after the city won a Barstool competition for best bar town. Despite criticizing strip malls, he praised the local bars and gave a positive review to Paladino’s pizza. Lieutenant Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen were tragically killed in a shooting in Salina. The fundraiser initiated by Portnoy is just one of many efforts to support the families of the fallen officers.
