In the Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh’s bowlers put on a show, limiting Afghanistan to just 115 runs for five in their crucial match-up on Monday. Rishad Hossain was particularly effective, taking three wickets for 26 runs. Despite Afghanistan’s hopes of securing a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals and eliminating Australia by winning this game, they failed to do so.
Afghanistan started off well with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring a slow 43 off 55 balls. However, despite Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah Omarzai reaching double digits, the scoring rate was painfully slow throughout the innings. Taskin Ahmed was brought into the Bangladesh team for this game and bowled excellently, conceding only 12 runs and taking an important wicket. Skipper Rashid Khan did his best to boost the score with three late sixes, but it wasn’t enough to reach just over 100 runs. The lack of boundaries in the innings was evident – a problem that plagued Afghanistan’s batting effort throughout the match.
