Bakersfield Native Anmol Kaur Takes Flight at UC Merced as Second SJV PRIME+ Medical Education Cohort Member

Embarking on a Journey from Bakersfield to a Tranquil Haven for Advancing Science and Medicine

Anmol Kaur is a first-year student at UC Merced, hailing from Bakersfield in the San Joaquin Valley. She has a strong background in science and medicine, with parents who have successful careers in the medical field. Kaur was accepted into the second SJV PRIME+ medical education cohort and aims to make a difference in the world of science and medicine.

Growing up in Bakersfield and graduating from Stockdale High School, Kaur maintained an impressive 4.5 GPA while participating in Project Lead the Way’s biomedical science program. Through this program, she gained hands-on experience analyzing DNA, dissecting organs, and conducting a pig autopsy. Additionally, Kaur co-founded W.I.S.E., a nonprofit organization that inspires young girls to pursue STEM careers through online seminars, workshops, and scholarships.

Excited to attend UC Merced, Kaur appreciates the university’s peaceful setting in the Central Valley. Her acceptance into the SJV PRIME+ BS/MD pathway played a significant role in her decision to enroll at UC Merced as she plans to continue exploring her passion for science and medicine while preparing for medical school, volunteering in her community and building lasting connections with others.

In her free time, Kaur enjoys trying different fruits and considers herself more of a night owl than an early bird. She dreams of traveling to Italy’s scenic towns for a three-day weekend getaway someday soon. She looks forward to gaining new experiences while forming strong relationships at UC Merced inspired by her peers from previous SJV PRIME+ cohorts.
