Bahamas Blazes with World-Leading Time in 4x100m Relay: Day 1 of World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 Leaves Paris Quota Spots on the Line

Nassau was buzzing with excitement as Noah Lyles got the Bahamian crowd pumped up before leading Team USA to a world-leading time in the men’s 4x100m relay. It was just one of many thrilling races on Day 1 of the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24, where Paris quota spots were at stake in various relay events.

Team USA, comprised of Courtney Lindsey, Kenny Bednarek, Kyree King, and Noah Lyles, clocked a time of 37.49 to win Heat 1 of the men’s 4x100m relay. The Italian team, which included Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs, finished a close second with a time of 38.14.

The evening of relays saw several teams secure their quota spots for the Paris Games, with the top two teams in each event earning the opportunity to compete. The U.S. women had a strong showing in the 4x100m relay, posting the fastest time of the night with a time of 42.21. However, unfortunately for the U.S., their men faced a setback in the 4x400m relay when they were disqualified for an illegal handoff. Despite this setback, the team remained focused on securing their spot for Paris.

As the qualification process continues, National Olympic Committees will have the final say on which athletes will represent their countries at the Paris Games
