Running back Brian Battie from the Auburn Tigers is in critical condition after a fatal shooting in his hometown of Sarasota, Florida. The incident occurred early Saturday morning and resulted in the death of Battie’s brother, Tommie Battie. Auburn coach Hugh Freeze has updated fans on Battie’s condition, stating that he is still in critical condition and on a ventilator. Four others, including Battie, were also sent to the hospital due to the shooting.

Before joining Auburn, Battie played at South Florida where he was recognized as a top kick returner and earned All-American and All-AAC honors. He was a highly rated four-star prospect in 247Sports’ transfer rankings. During his time at South Florida, his talent and skill on the field were evident. Afterwards, he joined Auburn where he played a significant role as the primary kick returner and provided depth at running back. In the 2023 season, he finished fifth in the SEC in kick return average and scored a touchdown against Arkansas.
