Auburn Football Hosts Several Commitments and Pledges as Derick Smith from Southside High School in Selma Visits Campus

Auburn football recently wrapped up another exciting weekend of recruiting, with several commitments and pledges to other programs visiting the campus. One of the guests was Derick Smith, a four-star athlete from Southside High School in Selma, who is currently committed to Alabama. Along with fellow Alabama commit Antonio Coleman, Smith enjoyed his time exploring Auburn’s facilities and building relationships with wide receivers coach Marcus Davis and safeties coach Charles Kelly.

Smith is projected to play wide receiver at Alabama, but at Auburn, he would have the freedom to choose his position. Building relationships with both Davis and Kelly is crucial for Smith as he considers his options. Kelly’s success with defensive backs at Alabama has caught Smith’s attention, and he believes that Kelly could help him achieve similar success.

Smith’s decision on whether to flip from Alabama to Auburn will likely be influenced by Auburn’s performance on the field in 2024. If the team shows improvement from their 6-7 campaign in 2023, Smith may have a difficult decision to make in December. Auburn will have another opportunity to impress Smith at Big Cat Weekend in July, giving them another chance to showcase what the program has to offer.
