Atlanta Braves Right-Hander Spencer Strider Undergoes MRI after Injury; Potential Options to Fill Rotation Spot Discussed

Braves’ ace Spencer Strider scheduled for MRI following Friday start due to elbow discomfort

On Friday night, during a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Strider experienced elbow discomfort. As a result, he will undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the extent of the issue. Strider, 25, struggled during the game, showing decreased fastball velocity and reduced effectiveness. He allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings pitched.

Despite his struggles, the Braves were able to rally and force extra innings in Friday’s game. They eventually secured a win in the 10th inning thanks to a Travis d’Arnaud single. The Braves will continue their series with the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

If Strider needs to go on the injured list, the Braves have several potential options to fill his spot in the rotation. These include young players like AJ Smith-Shawver and Bryce Elder, as well as more experienced pitchers like Dylan Dodd, Allan Winans, and Huascar Ynoa. Strider is in his third full MLB season and has been a key starting pitcher for the Braves. He has a career 3.37 ERA and has been a contender for the Cy Young Award in past seasons.
