Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the latest installment in the beloved series, set to release in 2019. The game will feature an open world that spans roughly the size of Egypt from Assassin’s Creed Origins, which was released in 2017. However, this time around, the setting will be 16th-century Japan, where players will explore a map that is said to be about the same size as the portion of ancient Egypt in Origins.
Creative director Jonathan Dumont shed some light on what to expect from this new map in an interview with IGN. He explained that while it’s similar to the previous game’s map size-wise, it has been designed on a more realistic scale. This means that players can expect more detailed environments and landscapes to explore. The mountains and castles in Japan have been made more realistic than those found in Origins, thanks to Ubisoft’s focus on creating a more authentic representation of this fascinating period of history.
One thing that will certainly stand out for players is the castles themselves. They are so large that they have been designed as levels unto themselves, according to game director Charles Benoit. Exploring these castles will feel like embarking on a new adventure each time you enter one, providing plenty of opportunities for players to discover hidden secrets and take down challenging enemies. It sounds like these castles will offer a unique challenge for both protagonists – Samurai Yosuke and Shinobi Naoe – with their different strengths and abilities. While Yosuke may struggle with some of the castle environments due to his lack of stealth capabilities, Naoe should excel thanks to his nimbleness and ability to move quickly through shadows.
Ubisoft seems determined to make Assassin’s Creed Shadows stand out by offering players dynamic gameplay mechanics reminiscent of games like GTA 5 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Players will be able to switch seamlessly between Yosuke and Naoe even between objectives within the same mission, giving them greater control over their gaming experience. With its vast open world, intriguing setting, and unique gameplay mechanics, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has all the ingredients needed to become one of the best games in the franchise yet.
In conclusion, Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises a rich immersive experience set in 16th century Japan with vast environments
