Ascension Health System Restores Electronic Health Records Following Ransomware Attack and Reopens Retail Pharmacy

Ascension St. Vincent plans to restore access to electronic health records.

The Ascension health system has announced that electronic health records (EHRs) will be restored in their facilities by the end of next week, following a ransomware attack that left them unavailable. The national healthcare system, which operates a 770-bed hospital on 86th, has faced numerous challenges due to the use of paper notes and records for patient care. This shift has resulted in delays in care, increased room for error, and added stress for staff and patients.

A spokesperson for the health system stated that restoring EHR access has been a top priority in their recovery process. They noted positive developments in their efforts and announced that EHR access has been successfully restored in the Florida, Alabama, and Austin markets. However, the investigation into the cyber crime is ongoing.

Despite these challenges, Ascension has reopened its retail pharmacy. For further inquiries or information, Binghui Huang can be contacted at 317-385-1595 or via email at Bhuang@gannett.com.
