As Season Comes to a Close, Wolves and Coach Gary O’Neil Discuss Contract Extension Amidst European Heartbreak

O’Neil in talks with Wolves for a new contract

As the season comes to a close, Wolves and head coach Gary O’Neil have been in discussions about a new contract. While nothing has been finalized yet, both parties are comfortable with the situation and are focused on the transfer window. Sporting director Matt Hobbs had previously mentioned that the club would speak with O’Neil about a new deal at the end of the season, as he still has two years remaining on his current contract.

Wolves and O’Neil are both confident that an agreement will be reached easily, but it may not happen before the start of the new campaign on 16 August against Arsenal. O’Neil took Wolves to a 14th place finish in the Premier League last season, just five days after being appointed following Julen Lopetegui’s departure due to frustrations with the recruitment policy.

Despite a strong start to the season where they were competing for Europe and reached the FA Cup quarterfinals, Wolves struggled towards the end of the campaign. They lost eight of their final 11 games and only managed to secure one win, missing out on European qualification.
