Armenia’s Prime Minister Urges Strong Council of Europe in Face of Geopolitical Challenges to Promote Peace and Human Rights

The Prime Minister Sends Best Wishes to the Newly Elected Secretary General of the CE

In his congratulatory message to Alain Berse, the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan highlighted the importance of the organization’s 75th anniversary amidst complex geopolitical challenges faced in Europe and beyond. Pashinyan emphasized the need for a strong Council of Europe to promote peace and uphold universal values in the face of democracy and human rights challenges.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Berse’s ability to uphold fundamental values and principles, while protecting human rights across the Council of Europe’s geographic area. Pashinyan pledged full support from himself and the government of the Republic of Armenia in supporting Berse in his mission as Secretary General.

Alain Berse, who served as president of the Swiss Confederation before being elected as Secretary General, is tasked with navigating challenges and working towards promoting peace, democracy, and human rights in the region. His appointment comes at a critical time for the Council of Europe, which must continue to uphold its commitment to these values amidst growing threats to democracy and human rights around the world.
