Armenia and Azerbaijan Propose Bilateral Mechanism to Address Ceasefire Violation Accusations: A Step Towards Peace in the Caucasus

Prime Minister’s Office Proposes Implementation of Bilateral Mechanism for Ceasefire Violation Investigation

The staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia has proposed a bilateral mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations in response to accusations that units of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia are responsible for such violations. The Government noted that despite denials from the Ministry of Defense, Azerbaijan continues to spread information about these alleged violations.

In order to prevent tension from escalating and address cases of ceasefire violations between the two countries, the staff of the Prime Minister suggested creating a bilateral mechanism for investigation through diplomatic channels. This proposal was made in response to recent reports of shelling by Armenian forces, which have been denied by both Armenia’s military department and the EU mission monitoring the border.

The ongoing exchange of accusations and denials highlights the need for a structured mechanism to investigate and address ceasefire violations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Last week, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed forming a bilateral mechanism to investigate these allegations, but there has been no response from Azerbaijan yet. As tensions continue to rise and accusations persist, establishing a formal mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations is becoming increasingly important for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
