Arizona Cardinals Look Forward to Kicking Off the 2024 NFL Season with the Weight of Expectations on Number 86

Cardinals’ Season Opener Against Bills Just 86 Days Away

As we head into the weekend on Friday, the excitement for the upcoming 2024 NFL season continues to build. The Arizona Cardinals are set to kick off the season on the road against the Buffalo Bills in just 86 days.

One player who has been wearing No. 86 for the team is Jeff Smith, but he has yet to make a significant impact as he has not played in a game with the Cardinals. This number has held significance for Arizona in recent seasons, as it was worn by tight end Zach Ertz in 2021.

Ertz had an impressive season that year, tying the team’s single-season record for receptions by a tight end with 56 in just 11 games. However, his production decreased in the following season and he was released after requesting to leave due to his own emergence and that of Trey McBride.

Despite not living up to expectations after his 2021 season, Ertz was still considered a key player for Arizona. To stay up-to-date on all Cardinals news and updates, check out Jess Root’s podcast Rise Up See Red, available on Spotify, YouTube or Apple podcasts.
