Apple’s AI Revolution: Unveiling Major Updates to Siri and Enhanced AI Capabilities in iOS 18

iOS 18 will feature Siri with new and improved AI capabilities for summarizing articles and transcribing voice notes

Apple is set to unveil major updates to its Siri voice assistant at the 2024 World Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10. The company is focusing on a “proactive” artificial intelligence (AI) approach with these improvements, which will include features such as summarizing news articles, transcribing voice notes, and enhancing application suggestions.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Siri will become more conversational and anticipate users’ needs by suggesting actions that can streamline smartphone usage, organization, and communication. Additionally, Siri will offer improvements in photo editing using AI functions to help users achieve better results.

Apple is also working on enhancing the AI capabilities of iOS 18 with a large language model developed in-house, integrated into iPhone smartphones to process data on the device itself. The company is also finalizing a collaboration with OpenAI to utilize their generative AI technology in the new iPhones. However, Gurman notes that Apple’s generative AI technology still lags behind competitors like Google and OpenAI in terms of chatbots.

Overall, Apple is expected to leverage its own AI functions and the collaboration with OpenAI to deliver enhanced AI capabilities in iOS 18. These updates, along with improvements in Siri’s proactive intelligence and photo editing features, are set to revolutionize the user experience on Apple devices.
