Apple Lags Behind in AI Competition, Prompts Collaboration with Third Parties and ChatGPT Integration

Which AI is more effective: Apple Intelligence or ChatGPT?

Apple has finally entered the field of artificial intelligence with ‘Apple Intelligence,’ after months of anticipation. While the technology is not yet available for testing on devices, the company has provided benchmarks to assess its performance.

The initial results show that Apple’s AI model, while powerful in local environments and on servers, falls behind competitors like OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo in terms of overall performance and responsiveness. However, this has led Apple to collaborate with third parties to enhance its AI capabilities, as seen with ChatGPT.

Testing has shown that Apple’s model outperforms others like Gemma and Mistral in certain tasks. For more demanding tasks that require more processing power, Apple relies on external servers encrypted under the ‘Private Cloud’ Compute system to ensure user information protection. However, results still show that OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo performs better overall in most tests.

Human raters have found that GPT-4 Turbo provides a superior experience in interpreting and responding to complex requests compared to ‘Apple Intelligence.’ While Apple leads in local artificial intelligence, it falls behind GPT-4 Turbo in server environments.

Apple’s collaboration with leading AI developers like OpenAI aims to integrate advanced technologies into Siri to improve ‘Apple Intelligence’s competitiveness. This strategy is driven by market expectations and user preferences for more powerful models like GPT-4 Turbo.
