Apple in Talks with Meta to Integrate Generative AI into Its Products: Can Apple Keep Pace in the AI Race?

Apple is currently in talks with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to integrate generative artificial intelligence (AI) developed by Meta into its products. This move is aimed at helping Apple catch up with its competitors in the AI sector, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

Recently, Apple has also closed an agreement with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT, an AI technology, into its new “Apple Intelligence” service. The Wall Street Journal reported that Meta has been in discussions with Apple to integrate its generative AI model into “Apple Intelligence.”

Apple has its own artificial intelligence capabilities but is seeking assistance from companies like OpenAI to enhance its offerings. According to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, the company is looking to incorporate features from Google’s generative AI system, Gemini, into its devices as well.

The main challenge for Apple in integrating AI technology into its products in recent years has been how to do so without compromising user privacy and security. The upcoming “Apple Intelligence” service will allow users to create emojis based on descriptions, generate summaries of emails and update Siri with AI capabilities. Canalys predicts that 16% of smartphones released this year will have generative AI functions and this number is expected to increase to 54% by 2028.
