Anthem’s Renegotiation with Common Spirit Health Leaves Patients Worried and Concerned About their Care

Negotiations between Anthem and Common Spirit continue amidst increasing healthcare costs

After two weeks of terminating their agreement with Common Spirit Health, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is facing potential higher healthcare costs for many people. As a result, health professionals are eager to rejoin the network and renegotiate a fair and reasonable rate that will ensure patients can continue receiving care.

Dr. Ozzie Granada, Chief Medical Officer for Common Spirit’s Mountain Region, expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations and emphasized the importance of avoiding barriers to care for patients during this transition. However, some patients are concerned about the uncertainty surrounding their primary care physician within the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield network. For example, Kathryn Cramer Adair and her husband, who have had COVID-19 multiple times, rely on their primary care physician within the Anthem network for consistent care.

In response to the situation, Anthem has stated that discussions with Common Spirit Health have been positive but significant issues remain including ensuring fair and reasonable rates to retain compassionate doctors and nurses. The focus is on protecting essential medical services and advocating for patients to receive the care they need. Despite these challenges, efforts are being made to find a resolution that benefits all parties involved.
