America’s security hawks and the Chinese Communist Party both agree on one thing: innovation is crucial to achieving geopolitical, economic, and military superiority. While President Xi Jinping believes that science and technology will help China surpass America, Washington politicians are implementing export controls and sanctions to hinder China’s technological advancements.
However, Washington’s strategy may not be effective in the long run. Chinese science and innovation are advancing quickly, as reported this week. Instead of solely focusing on suppressing Chinese science, America would be better off concentrating on advancing its own research and development efforts to maintain its lead. By doing so, America can capitalize on the research conducted by China’s talented scientists and propel itself even further ahead in the global innovation race.
