Ambush and Chase: Unique Encounters between Leopards and Baboons in Kruger National Park

Baboons fight back against leopards attacking their kin

In the Kruger National Park, a leopard was seen ambushing and capturing a baboon, only to be chased away by other members of the monkey troop. The encounter was captured on camera by Solomon Ndlovu, a safari manager at Singita Lebombo Lodge. Ndlovu often leads tourists on the trail of leopards and witnessed this unique interaction firsthand.

As he heard the noise of a group of baboons approaching, he quickly realized what was happening. The leopard, known for its stealth and ambush tactics, swiftly moved to capture the unsuspecting monkeys. The big cat patiently waited behind a dam wall for the perfect opportunity to strike.

When the moment came, the leopard leaped into action and caught one of the baboons with precision. However, the rest of the troop did not let the leopard leave easily. The leader of the baboons, followed by the other members, chased after the leopard in a bid to save their fallen comrade or seek revenge. The chaos that ensued forced the leopard to abandon its prey and defend itself against the angry baboons.
