Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go Stores Embrace New Shopping Experience with Dash Carts and Augmented Reality Displays

Amazon discontinues use of Just Walk Out technology in grocery stores

Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores are undergoing a transformation, with the Just Walk Out technology no longer being used. Instead, these stores are offering a new shopping experience that aims to provide more value, convenience, and selection. Feedback from customers who wanted additional features such as easily finding nearby products and deals, viewing receipts while shopping, and knowing how much money they saved has been taken into account in redesigning these stores.

Amazon will be shifting its focus to Dash Carts, AI-powered shopping carts that allow shoppers to skip the checkout line. These carts are equipped with a digital touch screen that allows shoppers to log in to their Amazon accounts, scan items, and see their total as they shop. The Dash Cart also includes a built-in scale for weighing items, making it easier for customers to keep track of their spending as they move through the store.

Dash Carts are currently available in two dozen stores across 13 states, including Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, McKeever’s Markets, and Price Chopper. Amazon plans to continue utilizing the Just Walk Out technology in stores in the U.K. and in various third-party retailers like hospitals, airports, stadiums, and theme parks.

The decision to move away from the Just Walk Out technology at Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores is part of Amazon’s strategy to prioritize the use of Dash Carts in providing a seamless and efficient shopping experience.
